On the E91 generation, you can encounter three different solutions. Raised rails can be recognized by the fact that they arch above the roof and you can easily pass your hand under them along their entire length. Flush rails, on the other hand, lie directly against the bodywork and no gap remains under them.
The third option is fixpoints directly in the roof, where the car has no rails and the rack feet are secured into prepared mounting points. Each of these solutions requires a different type of mounting, so look at your roof from the side before choosing a set.
The E91 model was manufactured from 2005 to 2012 and underwent a facelift during production, which changed the type of rails. The vehicle registration document will not tell you the exact mounting type, so it is better to rely on your own look at the roof.
If your estate is equipped with a panoramic sunroof, check the vehicle manual. It may list restrictions regarding opening the window while you have the crossbars mounted.
Crossbars form the base on which you subsequently mount a roof box, bicycle racks, or ski holders. Accessories are mounted either using clamps around the bar profile or by sliding into the T-track in the crossbar. When choosing a set, check the bar profile in the product description to ensure it suits your existing accessories.
Remember that you must include the load itself, the crossbars, and the empty box in the total permitted roof load. The maximum roof load capacity is stated by the manufacturer in the car manual.
