Qashqai has gone through several changes, and the generation is decisive when choosing a roof rack. The first generation J10 was produced from 2007 to 2014. The second generation designated J11 came to the market in 2014 and production lasted until 2021. The third generation J12 started in 2021. The production year in the vehicle registration document is decisive, as the date of first registration may be shifted.
With older generations J10 and J11, you will encounter two options. The first are raised rails that stand above the roof and you can slide your hand under them. The second option is a bare roof, where there is nothing prepared on the bodywork at all and the feet grip the edge of the roof.
With the newer generation J12, a change occurred. Raised rails were replaced by flush rails, which lie directly on the roof along their entire length without free space underneath them. Besides these, J12 is also sold in a version featuring a bare roof. Before buying, just look at the roof and verify which solution you have on the car.
Qashqai has a comfortable body height, so unloading a roof box or fastening bikes into holders can be managed without stepping on door sills. When packing for a winter ski trip or summer vacation, remember the total height of the car with the load. In indoor parking structures and underground garages, it pays off to know the current height to prevent damaging the box.
