When choosing a roof rack, the production year from the vehicle registration certificate and the roof mounting type are crucial. For the second generation Scenic JM (2003 – 2009), racks designed for fixed points, which are prepared directly from the factory, are intended.
The third generation Scenic III (2009 – 2016) brought a change. Some cars rolled off the assembly line with a bare roof without any elements, while other units have raised roof rails. You can recognize raised roof rails by the fact that they stand above the roof surface and you can easily slide your fingers under them. The fourth generation Scenic IV (2016 – 2022) then exclusively uses mounting for a bare roof.
The 5-seater Scenic and the extended 7-seater Grand Scenic have different lengths and roof shapes. If you own the Grand version, select roof racks in a separate category for this model, because sets for the short Scenic will not fit the extended body.
The Scenic offers family space, but when the trunk is fully packed, a roof box or bicycle carriers come in handy. The bodywork is slightly higher than that of a standard hatchback, so when loading bicycles it is worth opening the rear door and stepping on the sill.
When driving with a box, keep in mind the overall clearance height of the car, especially when entering underground garages, parking structures, or passing under low gates.
