A Škoda trunk is usually enough until bicycles, a stroller, and skis are added to the bags. That is when crossbars come in, followed by a roof box or carriers. Choose the model, then the generation according to the production year, and you will see the setups designed specifically for it.
Fabia, Octavia, and Superb have a bare roof, and the rack clamps under the door frame. Their estate versions sit on roof rails. The same name and the same year therefore mean two completely different setups, which is why we list estate models as separate model pages. Pay attention to the word Combi in the name when choosing, it will save you from comparing racks for a different car.
Octavia Combi kept raised rails for three generations, meaning those protruding above the roof with space to pass your hand under. The fourth generation switched to flush rails lying flat against the roof, requiring a different fitting kit. The same shift can be seen in Kodiaq and Superb Combi. Electric Enyaq and Elroq have flush rails from the start, and on the older Fabia Combi, Roomster, or Yeti, expect raised rails.

On an estate, a roof box is almost always more sensible than a basket: luggage goes on top and leaves room in the trunk for things you want to keep handy along the way. On a hatchback, bicycle or ski holders are often more worthwhile because the car is shorter and a long box would interfere with opening the tailgate. Choose your accessories along with the crossbars, as they mount onto their profile.
