The Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class offers generous interior space, but when all three rows of seats are fully occupied, a roof rack becomes a necessity. Select your vehicle generation and find the right solution directly for your roof.
The GLS-Class is produced in two generations. The first was designated X166 and was produced from 2015 to 2019. Subsequently, the X167 generation arrived, production of which started in 2019. The year of manufacture stated in the vehicle registration document is decisive for the correct selection.
Both versions have raised roof rails on the roof that stand above the roof surface with free space underneath. Although they look similar, the rails between generations have a different profile and spacing, so feet from one generation may not fit the other precisely.
The GLS belongs to the largest SUVs on the road, which brings the advantage of a long roof on which you can easily mount a spacious roof box along with a bike rack. Due to the height of the body, however, loading heavier items is more demanding. When securing cargo, it is worth using the door sill or a stable step.
Remember to take into account that a loaded car will increase significantly in height. Before entering underground garages, multi-storey car parks or low clearances, verify the total clearance height.
You can mount bike racks, ski racks or a roof box on the crossbars. Depending on the shape of the bar profile, accessories are mounted either by sliding into the T-track in the crossbar or by clamping around the bar using U-bolts. Always check what the packaging of the given rack contains and what mounting elements you will find in it in the product detail of the selected set.
