When choosing a roof rack, the manufacturing year stated in your vehicle registration document is crucial. The first generation designated as Koleos HY was produced from 2008 to 2016. The second generation with the code designation Koleos HC came to the market in 2016 and its production lasted until 2023. These two cars have different roof dimensions and anchoring elements, so the roof racks are not interchangeable between them.
The first generation HY was delivered in two versions. It either features raised roof rails that arch above the roof and you can put your hand all the way around them, or it uses fixed points prepared directly in the roof. The second generation HC opted for a different style and on the roof you will find exclusively flush roof rails. These closely copy the roof along their entire length and there is no free space underneath them. Each of these solutions requires its own mounting kit with feet adapted to the shape of the profile.
The Koleos provides a spacious cabin, but when going on a family holiday or a winter skiing trip, the trunk quickly fills up. Crossbars allow you to load a roof box, ski racks, or bicycle carriers. Since it is a taller SUV, when loading sports equipment into the roof box, you will appreciate opening the rear doors and stepping on the sill. Before entering covered parking lots or garages, always remember that with a box or bikes on the roof, the car has a significantly higher total height.
