The Ford S-Max was produced in two generations, and by checking the production year in your vehicle registration document, you will know what solution you need. The first generation designated as WA6 (2006 to 2015) uses fixed points prepared in the roof. The second generation MK2 (2015 to 2023) came either with a bare roof without any elements, or had flush roof rails lying directly against the roof without a gap.
For the older WA6 version, it is enough to locate the fixed points. For the newer MK2 model, you need to look directly at the roof. You can recognize flush roof rails by the fact that they closely follow the roof along their entire length with no free space underneath. If there is nothing at all on the roof, you are selecting a set designed for a bare roof. Each variant requires different feet and a mounting kit, so always verify the exact package contents directly in the detail of the selected product.
The S-Max is among taller family cars, so when loading bikes or mounting a roof box, it helps to open the doors and step on the sill. The long roof provides plenty of space for ski racks as well as spacious boxes. Keep in mind that the total height of the car with cargo will increase, which you need to watch out for especially when entering underground garages and hotel parking lots.
