The Kia Carens serves as a family car, but with all seats occupied, the luggage space runs out quickly. Choosing a roof rack depends on the car generation, as the roof mounting method changed over the production periods.
For the Carens model, you choose from three generations. Older vehicles of the first generation Carens RS from 2000 to 2006 and the second generation Carens UN from 2006 to 2013 feature raised roof rails. The third generation Carens RP from 2013 to 2019 switched to flush roof rails. When selecting the setup, follow the production year from your vehicle registration document to ensure the rack fits precisely.
You can spot the difference by simply looking at the roof. Raised roof rails stand above the roof surface and there is a free space between them and the roof through which you can slide your hand. The rack foot clamps around them. Flush roof rails lie directly against the roof along their entire length without any gap. Therefore, the setup prepared for the RS and UN generations does not fit the newer RP model.
The Carens is frequently used for long journeys with children and luggage. If you also have the third row of seats unfolded, a roof box will solve the transport of a stroller, bags, or camping gear. Bicycle holders or ski racks can also be mounted on the roof. Thanks to the reasonable body height, loading bicycles is more convenient than on high off-road vehicles. When planning your routes, keep in mind the change in vehicle height when entering underground garages.
