The Volvo V40 had two completely different production periods, and the installation method depends precisely on that. Choose your vehicle's generation and select the crossbars designed directly for your roof.
The first generation from 1995 to 2004 was a compact estate for which we offer sets for raised rails. Later, the V40 designation returned from 2012 to 2019 for the five-door hatchback with the code designation 525, where the crossbars are mounted on a bare roof. Therefore, the production year listed in your vehicle registration certificate is decisive.
With the older estate from 1995 to 2004, you will use a set for raised rails that stand above the roof with free space underneath along their entire length. On the newer hatchback from 2012 to 2019, the rack clamps directly under the door frame because the car has a bare roof. The more compact trunk of the hatchback can be solved for vacation by a roof box where you can pack bags, a stroller, or winter ski equipment. You can also use the racks for transporting bicycles. Thanks to the lower build of both body styles, bicycles can be loaded comfortably directly from the ground without having to stand on the door sills.
