The Audi A6 Avant offers a spacious boot, but when going on a family holiday, transporting bikes, or ski equipment, a roof rack comes in handy. Choose your vehicle generation and you will see sets designed specifically for your roof.
In the older 4B generation from 1998 to 2005, you will find raised rails that stand above the roof profile with a free space underneath. The successor 4F generation produced between 2005 and 2011 switched to flush rails that closely fit the roof along their entire length.
The same flush rail solution is also used by the C7 generation from 2011 to 2018 and the newer C8 introduced in 2018. Although these generations share the same rail principle, the roof profile and shape have changed, which is why each requires its own mounting kit.
Check the actual production year in your vehicle registration document, as the date of first registration may be later. If your vehicle is from the transitional years of 2004, 2005, 2011, or 2018, verify the exact body code in your documents. Crossbars for raised rails cannot be installed on flush rails, and feet designed for an older generation may not follow the shape of a newer car.
The advantage of the estate body style is the low overall height of the vehicle. Loading bikes, skis, and handling a roof box are convenient directly from the ground, without having to step on the door sills. When mounting a roof box, make sure that its rear part does not interfere with the full opening of the tailgate.
