The large E-Class estate can easily carry your family and plenty of luggage, but when heading out for a skiing trip or a cycling excursion, it is time to use the roof. Choose your car's generation and select the setup ready for your model year.
Choosing the right roof rack depends on the generation of your estate. Older models from 1992 to 1996 designated as E-Class Kombi and the following W210 generation from 1996 to 2003 use traditional mounting. The same applies to the popular S211 generation produced between 2003 and 2009, and the S212 from 2009 to 2016.
A major change came in 2016 with the arrival of the S213 generation, which was produced until 2023. It is followed by the latest S214 version, production of which started in 2023. When looking for a roof rack, always follow the production year listed in your vehicle registration document.
On E-Class Estate vehicles, you will find two different roof types. Older generations up to the S212 model feature raised roof rails that stand above the roof with a clear gap underneath along their entire length. The roof rack foot clamps around them from the sides and underneath.
Starting with the S213 generation, the manufacturer switched to flush roof rails. These lie directly on the roof with no gap underneath. The setups for these two systems are not interchangeable, so please verify the appearance of your roof before purchasing.
The E-Class Estate is one of the longest estates on the market, which brings an advantage when mounting accessories. You can position the crossbars at a reasonable distance from each other, ensuring that a long roof box sits stably and does not interfere with opening the tailgate.
Loading bikes is considerably easier than on a high SUV because the roof is lower, making bike handling comfortable even for one person. Always check the exact contents of individual rack packages directly in the selected product detail.
