The second-generation XC60 is built on the SPA platform and production began in 2017. It features flush rails on the roof, where the foot anchors through points hidden under caps. The kit is designed specifically for this generation and cannot be transferred from the first.
The first and second generations overlapped in 2017, so for a car from this period, verify the production date in your vehicle registration document. The model year listed in advertisements is often shifted compared to actual production, and during a generation transition, this means a different kit.
Both generations of the XC60 have flush rails, but they differ in the spacing and shape of the anchoring points. The foot fits into specific locations, so the kit either fits precisely or not at all. When ordering, therefore, rely on the generation rather than the fact that older XC60 models also have rails on the roof.
The XC60 is usually loaded to capacity, which is why it pays off to calculate ahead. The maximum roof load limit includes not only the luggage, but also the roof box and the crossbars themselves; you can find this limit in the vehicle manual, and with a fully loaded box, you might get closer to it than you expect. With a loaded box, also account for the increased total height of the car, which will first become apparent in underground garages or when entering a courtyard.
Position the roof box far enough forward on the crossbars so that the tailgate does not hit it when opened. With power-operated tailgates, it is wise to test the first opening with a loaded box slowly while watching upward.
