Golf and Polo mostly feature a bare roof, and the rack grips under the door frame. Estate Variant models, Touran, and both Caddys sit on raised roof rails—meaning the kind you can slide your fingers under. Newer ID.4, ID.7 Tourer, and Tayron have switched to flush roof rails that lie tightly against the roof and require a car-specific fitting kit. On the Touareg, you may also encounter integrated T-tracks directly in the roof. Each of these mounts requires a different foot, so the path to the right setup leads through the model and production year.

The items you are actually transporting are then mounted onto the crossbars: a roof box, bicycle holders, ski or snowboard racks. If you already know you will mainly be using a box, choose both at once because accessories attach to the crossbar profile and not every clamp fits every shape. We offer steel crossbars, which withstand rougher handling and cost less, as well as aluminum ones with an aerodynamic profile that produce significantly less wind noise on the highway.
